BK on South Park

There was a time when, as the song by Dean Martin so eloquently stated, "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You."

Those were the dark ages.

Now, you're nobody til you get your behind roasted on Comedy Central's "South Park."

Although Bill Kurtis is loved by family, friends, and his loyal fans / web sites, he got officially and swiftly booted up to a celebrity "somebody" when the raunchy little bubblehead vermin of South Park finally took a cheap shot and crucified our beloved serious A&E guy on the June 21, 2000 episode of South Park - "Cartman Joins NAMBLA."

Let's See What Bill Kurtis Says

Television Critic Phil Rosenthal of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote a great synopsis of the program in his June 21, 2000 column:


Chicago's Bill Kurtis joins an elite group tonight that includes Barbra Streisand, Sally Struthers, Robert Redford and Winona Ryder--and it's a close call whether to congratulate him or offer our sympathy.

Kurtis gets lampooned on Comedy Central's "South Park."

The 9 p.m. episode opens with Eric Cartman and the foul-mouthed scamps playing something called the "Investigative Reports" conspiracy board game.

The game, which spells the former WBBM-Channel 2 news star's name two different ways, has Kurtis, host of A&E's "Investigative Reports," instructing players either to deny or cover up government involvement in such matters as AIDS and UFO landings.

Actually, it's the most tasteful part of an unusually unfunny * 1/2 episode that's more offensive than most, what with pedophilia, all manner of illness, morning-after abortion pills and a theme park ride called "The John Denver Experience."

(Well, OK, that's funny.)

When told of his inclusion, Kurtis laughed.
